Deva-Dee Siliee, Co-Director and Founder
Deva-Dee Siliee is a graduate from Columbia University in the City of New York with a degree in Political Science and a concentration in Human Rights. During her academic career, Deva traveled, studied and worked in different countries, where she explored several topics relating to social justice, development and social change. She was a Humanity in Action fellow in Paris, did field research in Morocco and interned and volunteered with various NGO's. After her studies she worked for Insight Cuba, a division of Cross-cultural Solutions, a not-for-profit considered among the leading international volunteering organizations. All these multiple experiences propelled Deva to reflect on how to inspire community involvement and active citizenship in her birthplace of Curaçao. In NY, Deva witnessed how community service was made accessible to millions of individuals from all walks of life. The core idea for Curaçao Cares was birthed when Lysayé and Deva decided to try to make this possible on an island of 150,000 citizens.
Janis Vinck, Programs Manager
After 3 years working in the banking world, Janis joined Curaçao Cares as a part-time programs manager in May 2013 just before the official launch of the organization. With a wealth of experience in organizing projects, a creative eye for details and a love for networking and working with people, she delved into the role. Janis also cultivated the spirit of volunteerism over many years, lending a helping hand at various initiatives and assisting her mother who has been a dedicated volunteer for over twenty years at Prinses Wilhelmina Fonds, the leading organization providing care for cancer patients. Janis is now the project leader for CURA DOET, the largest volunteer effort in Curaçao. Even though it can be quite the challenge to oversee hundreds of projects and mobilize thousands of volunteers, it fills her with pride to see what can be accomplished when people work together.
Lysayé de Windt, Co-Director and Founder
At a very young age Lysayé was introduced to volunteering through her parents' affiliation with the Rotary and Inner Wheel service clubs. While attending Manhattanville College in New York she also spent time volunteering as part of the International Student Organization and Student Government Association. In her junior year she had the unique opportunity of studying abroad through the 'Semester at Sea' program. She sailed 3 months from the Bahamas to San Diego, USA, exploring Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius, India, Myanmar, Vietnam and Japan and volunteering along the way with local NGO's. Even though the volunteer experiences in each country were relatively short, she observed the importance of the organizations and the positive impact they had on their communities. Upon her return to Curaçao in 2010, she reconnected with Deva on the idea of establishing Curaçao Cares as a volunteer & project management organization to make volunteer opportunities more visible and easily accesible in Curaçao.
